The Elements of Art are the building blocks, or 'words' of art.  They are the basic elements that artists use in order to thoughtfully create their masterpieces.

The seven Elements of Art are:

LINE - one dimensional, including various types, directions, and qualities (i.e. straight, vertical, thick, etc.)

SHAPE - two-dimensional geometric & freeform shapes (i.e. square, triangle, shape of a tree, etc.)

FORM - shapes become forms when depth is added as a third dimension (i.e. cube, pyramid, sphere, etc.)

COLOR - the color wheel is used to teach color theory including color schemes etc. (i.e. primary, secondary, etc.)

VALUE - the range of values from white to black including all values of grey in between

TEXTURE - both visual and tactile textures can be developed in both 3D & 2D art media

SPACE - concepts of overlapping, size variation, value changes, and perspective are used to create space in artwork

Below are examples of student art projects that have been created using one or more Element of Art as the focus of the designing process.
